The Indian People Need Your Help!
Dear friends
I'm emailing you with a cry for help. There's a disaster going on as you read this and we wanted to get this out to everybody.
Yesterday we found out that Johnpaul's area is in deep trouble, literally. We're asking for prayers for Johnpaul and his people. There is massive flooding right now in south India--over a million people are homeless and almost 300 have lost their lives. The number is rising as they find more in areas where the military are going in to evacuate people. (There's been a drought for months--monsoons late--crops failing--now the rains came in terrible force and the ground is not holding it.)
He emailed us this morning. Thank God the Children's Home and the town of Tenali have not been flooded yet, but by this morning, ten of the village churches have been lost--along with all their crops, cattle, homes, everything. This applies to hundreds of villages along the Krishna River basin. The village where Russ and Johnpaul held their first outdoor crusade together has been swept away.
Tens of thousands are without shelter in the downpour, no food, no clean water. Carcasses of dead animals are floating by as the people try to reach higher ground. Many are marooned, cut off from rescue. The infrastructure is inadequate in good times; during these disasters, help is slow to come.
Please pray for the safety of Johnpaul and his family, the orphan children, and the pastors and church members in the city and villages. We are asking for donations to help provide emergency food and water, blankets and tarps—then, as things simmer down, some basics like cooking pots, water pots, cots etc , so the village people and churches can restart their lives.
If you know of anyone who can help, please have them go to www.aimission.org and donate--they can specify "flood relief" on the Paypal account. Or a check can be mailed. A few dollars go a long way ($4=good sturdy blanket, etc.) This is an opportunity to help in the Name of Christ and open
the way for the Gospel--giving Johnpaul and his pastors a place in their communities for the glory of God.
